Stories Behind the Flavour
Every dish at Sangam carries a story — of Hyderabadi royalty, Chennai streets, and 50 years of feeding souls on Mount Road.
📍 Anna Salai (Mount Road), Chennai
Heritage
When Hyderabad Came to Mount Road
In 1973, a family from the Nawabi kitchens of Old Hyderabad set up a small eatery on the iconic Anna Salai — Mount Road — the beating artery of Chennai. They brought with them the aromas of slow-cooked Dum Biryani, the smoky whisper of tandoor-kissed kebabs, and the warmth of Irani Chai. Fifty years later, that same flame still burns, now feeding thousands of Chennaites who crave authentic Hyderabadi soul food.

The Biryani Story
Hyderabadi Dum — The Art of Patience
The Hyderabadi Dum Biryani at Sangam isn't assembled — it's orchestrated. Long-grain basmati soaks in saffron water. Marinated mutton or chicken slow-cooks buried in spiced rice, sealed under a dough lid, over a wood fire. Every grain of rice tells a different story. Chettinad meets Deccan in each spoonful. Paired with Sangam's house raita and Mirchi Ka Salan, this is Chennai's love letter to Hyderabad.

Kebab Culture
The Tandoor Never Sleeps
At Sangam, the clay tandoor runs from 11 AM to midnight. Afghani Kebabs marinated in hung curd and secret spices. Malai Tikka Kebabs glazed with cream and cashew paste. BBQ Al Faham — the Arabian-Hyderabadi fusion that Chennai can't resist. Each skewer is a nod to the Nizam's royal tables, now accessible on Mount Road. When the charcoal meets the meat, it's not cooking — it's storytelling.

The Shawarma That Conquered Chennai
Sangam's Shawarma Roll started as a side menu item. Within months, it was outselling everything else. The secret? Hyderabadi spice-marinated chicken on a vertical rotisserie, wrapped in soft bread with house sauces. The Sangam Special Grilled Shawarma now ships to offices, homes, and college campuses across Chennai. It's street food elevated — fast, bold, and unapologetically Hyderabadi in a Tamil city.
📍 Sangam Signature Dish
Mandi Magic
Mandi — From Yemen to Chennai via Hyderabad
The Mandi is an Arabic slow-cook tradition that found its Chennai home at Sangam. Whole chicken or mutton cooked in a sealed pit over smouldering charcoal and aromatic wood. The meat falls off the bone. The rice beneath absorbs the fat and spice — golden, fragrant, unforgettable. Sangam serves it for 1, 3, or 5 persons. Chennai's foodies discovered Mandi here first, and they keep coming back.
📍 Charminar Bakes at Sangam
Sweet Endings
Hyderabadi Sweetness Meets French Patisserie
Hyderabad is famous for its Osmania biscuits, Double Ka Meetha, and Qubani Ka Meetha. At Sangam, Charminar Bakes — our in-house dessert kitchen — marries these Nizami sweet traditions with modern French baking. Lotus Biscoff Cheesecake. Rosemilk Tres Leches. Chocolate Lava Cake. Bun Maska. The Sangam Special Falooda is a glass-full of Chennai summer and Hyderabadi tradition, layered in rose, basil seeds, and ice cream.

A Legacy ofAuthentic Flavor
In 1973, a young chef named Haji Abdul Karim opened a small eatery on Mount Road, Chennai, with one simple dream — to serve authentic Hyderabadi flavors to the people of Chennai.
More than five decades later, that dream has grown into Mount Road Sangam — Chennai's most beloved restaurant, still using the same original recipes, the same hand-ground spices, the same slow-cooking methods that made us famous.
Our Hyderabadi Dum Biryani is still prepared the traditional way — sealed in a degchi with dough, slow-cooked over wood fire. Some things should never change.
Haji Abdul Karim opens the first Sangam restaurant on Mount Road.
Added the iconic Mandi to our menu, bringing Arabic flavors to Chennai.
Second generation takes over, preserving every original recipe.
Launched Flip Diner — modern fast-casual dining within Sangam.
Now delivering to your doorstep. Same great food, new convenience.
